What words will you trust in 2019? Almost daily, your ears are exposed to opinions on how you should behave and voices spewing a plethora of deluded advice.   On virtually every social media platform, there are discussions regarding politics, spirituality, finances, sexuality and many other issues of life. Most commentaries attempt to appeal to your senses and influence your lifestyle choices. Although you can swipe to find 12 signs for This or 7 steps to That, they rarely fit your exact situation or provide a positive resolution.

And yet you trust in lies that will only hurt you.
Jeremiah 7:8 (Common English Bible)

You can get lost in the chatter.  Misinformation fuels insecurities and amplifies anxieties.  In the midst of discord and confusion, you may experience intense personal emotions.  A distressed mental state can cause your discernment to become clouded and sound decisions to wane.  Despite your desire for tranquility and joy, you find yourself disgruntled on the opposite end of the spectrum.

Lord of heavenly forces, those who trust in you are truly happy!
Psalms 84:12 (Common English Bible)

You do have a trustworthy source for enlightenment.  Your Heavenly Father is the ultimate success coach and life strategist. He delights in helping you in every area – relationships, difficult times, business, dreams, health, purpose – you name it.  God loves you. Tune in to His feed…no wi-fi needed.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart;
don’t rely on your own intelligence.
Know him in all your paths,
and he will keep your ways straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6 (Common English Bible)

This year is different.  Trust God.

Powerfully Discreet

Social-Media-3
How can you be discreet in this age of social media? Almost every event and opinion is broadcast through cyberspace for public judgment.  Most would agree that the internet is a powerful tool to spread uplifting and informative content through tweets, blogs, posts and pins. But sometimes, this unregulated medium is devastating when discretion is forgotten.

Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you.
– Proverbs 2:11 (New International Version)

So, what does it mean to be discreet?
It does not mean to keep secrets or to behave in a sneaky or deceitful way.  For example, you should not refer to someone as “discreet” if they have an affair with someone’s spouse and do very well at keeping it quiet. That would be an inaccurate use of the word.

To be discreet has much more substance and responsibility…
–  to be wise in speech or written word
–  respectful of delicate matters
–  avoid causing offense by one’s actions or words
–  prudence with regards to one’s own conduct
–  to select the best means to accomplish a purpose

My son, let not them depart from thine eyes: keep sound wisdom and discretion:
So shall they be life unto thy soul, and grace to thy neck. – Proverbs 3:21-22

Discretion requires wisdom and wisdom is a prerequisite for power. I believe you can still be “real” or “transparent” with others you are connecting with while also being discreet. I admire the way Jesus spoke in parables to encourage and teach. His purpose was to love, not judge. He used discernment. Even during public correction, He was kind to protect the identities and feelings of others. Social media is the new public arena. You and I can follow His example. Our words can be intentional, impactful and discreet.

Power Over Your Enemy

Power Over The Enemy

What does your enemy look like?  An enemy, for this purpose, is defined as anything that harms you and opposes the righteousness of God.  Does your enemy disguise itself through an emotion, circumstance or habit?

Emotions are perfectly normal, but if they are not controlled they begin to rule over you and your decision making.  Unrestrained emotions of anger, bitterness, self-pity, greed and fear are very dangerous.  Unchecked, they become an enemy to your spiritual growth.

Circumstances of life can be overwhelming at times.  An unexpected tragedy, an illness, or an end of a serious relationship can attempt to separate you from the love of God.  If they isolate you, they steal your confidence and become an enemy to your faith.

Habits can be good for you.  However, those such as lying, gluttony, procrastination and addictions are detrimental.  Bad habits keep you in bondage and become an enemy to your anointing.

Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions,
and over all the power of the enemy:
and nothing shall by any means hurt you. – Luke 10:19

Meditating on the word of God will combat the escalation of negative emotions.  Daily fellowship with Him can transform bad habits into good ones.  Using every circumstance of life to draw you closer to God provides wisdom for victory in that situation.  When you are with God, you have power over all the ways the enemy may show up in your life.  In addition, nothing will hurt you no matter how intimidating it may first appear.

Rejoice, you have the power to dominate over any enemy!

Power and Deception

The other evening, I got a call from a scam artist representing himself as someone working for Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.  According to him, I was a second place winner of approximately 19 million dollars and he needed to give me detailed instructions on how to claim my winnings.  Surprisingly, the man was very thorough in explaining the claim process and of course, the small fee I had to pay up front to receive my claim receipt.  He stated that I had to act immediately or I would forfeit my winnings.  Everything the man said seemed credible.  He was professional and polite.  He even provided a website, check number, package code and other details that could persuade anyone into thinking this was really true.  But when I questioned him about the upfront fee and requested another point of contact to verify that I was a winner, the once polite man turned ugly.

In a tone of disgust, the man scolded me stating that I needed to stop questioning a “blessing from God” and that “God works in mysterious ways.”  Wow.  Really?  At first, I was shocked that he tried to use the name of God to manipulate and defraud me.  On top of that, he acted as if I was unappreciative of what God was doing for me.

Very calmly, I told the man that I would not be paying for a claim receipt and thanked him for the opportunity.  The man could not understand why I had an issue with this simple process and why I would deny a “blessing” of this magnitude.  Anyway, I hung up the phone.  About 15 minutes later, he called back to make sure I realized I was about to forfeit my winnings.  He even called again a third time, but my husband handled it.  I was then reminded of how wickedness works.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and fraud:
under his tongue is mischief and vanity.
– Psalm 10:7

Beginning with Eve, Satan always twists God’s words and takes them out of context with the sole purpose to deceive.  He likes to create doubt in our minds by questioning and confusing the truth of God.

And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: – Genesis 3:4

You must be aware that wickedness has an agenda for your life:

  •         lure you into disobedience and foolishness
  •         create unnecessary hardships
  •         deceive you into hardening  your heart against God
  •          subdue God’s power within you

It is so important to seek the Word of God and understand it for yourself.  When you spend time with God, you become familiar with His ways and His power.  You will gain spiritual discernment to easily recognize a true blessing of God.  A personal relationship with Him is the best protection against all wickedness and deception.  Now is always a good time to start seeking Him!

That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory,
may give unto you the spirit of wisdom
and revelation in the knowledge of him:
– Ephesians 1:17

Who is in need of Power?

Anyone who is doing something they cannot do in their own strength needs power to go beyond, to have victory or to make history.   For some, power is needed to move forward from loss, devastation or betrayal.  Others need power to achieve success for new responsibilities and greater opportunities.  People often search for power from many different sources hoping to create a life they always dreamed.    However, God is the ultimate source of power that already dwells inside of you.  The key is to seek Him so that you can tap into the wisdom, love and power of the Creator.  God’s power overcomes evil, torment, curses, lack, bondage, depression, fear and condemnation.  This year make God and His power a priority in your life.   There is only victory to gain!

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. – 1 John 4:4
